Louisa, KYJob Description Louisa, KY - Solo opportunity with great start-up incentives Seeking BC Otolarynologist (or board eligible if 2003 or 2004 candidate) to establish a much needed practice in this small family-oriented community just minutes from Huntington, West Virginia. HOSPITAL THREE RIVERS MEDICAL CENTER is a JCAHO accredited, 90-bed acute care general facility that serves a market area of 50,000 in Southern West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. TRMC provides a full range of routine and ancillary services including a six-bed coronary/intensive care unit and obstetrical/nursery services with renovated birthing suites in our Tiny Treasures Unit. The community healthcare facility of the Big Sandy Valley offers inpatient and outpatient services in diagnostic radiology, FDA approved mammography services, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, fixed CT scanner, MRI and Lithotripsy. The services of a CAP accredited laboratory, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary lab and rehabilitative services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and hearing as well as pain management are provided. A 24-hour emergency room with physician coverage is available to handle major and minor emergencies. TRMC recently renovated a state-of-the-art surgical department that features general surgery, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, podiatry, daysurgery services and laser surgery techniques. The facility is licensed to operate a 15-bed acute care adult psychiatric unit that offers a full spectrum of outpatient psychiatric services. A home health agency associated with the hospital and known as Three Rivers Home Care is also available to serve the citizens of Martin and Lawrence counties. Three Rivers Medical Center has a new Tiny Toes Maternity Program that will help the expectant mother and dad to have an enjoyable pregnancy as well as enhance the miraculous experience of birth. Another of TRMC's special programs is the Senior Circle Association, with the mission to encourage the healthiest, most active lifestyle possible through meaningful educational, wellness, health and social programs, while providing valuable member-only discounts and privileges both national and local to adults age 50 and over. THE COMMUNITY Louisa is located on the Kentucky/West Virginia border, resting in the Big Sandy River Valley and surrounded by wooded mountains. The Huntington, West Virgina/Ashland, Kentucky metropolitan area, with a population of more than 300,000, is just 35 miles to the north. Louisa is a self-supporting community of small, varied businesses and has a population of 3,100, thereby offering the benefits of friendly small town living with easy access to a large city. The population of Lawrence County, of which Louisa is the county seat, has grown by more than 20 percent since 1970. Expansion of the area has been spurred on by growing industries such as Marathon Ashland Petroleum, Exxon, Calgon and International Nickel. The population growth is hastening a major shift toward non-agricultural employment. Louisa has become a bedroom community to the workers in the rich eastern Kentucky coal fields that are just a few miles south. The area's per capita personal income has grown by 57.5 percent during this time period. Lexington's Bluegrass area and the University of Kentucky are only 130 miles away via Interstate 64. RECREATION A public recreational complex offers tennis courts, baseball/softball fields and basketball courts. Four of Kentucky's finer state parks are located within 60 miles, offering fishing, camping, boating, horseback riding, golfing and summer theater, plus Yatesville Lake, which encompasses 100 miles of shoreline with accompanying marinas, restaurants and lodging. The lake is located five miles from the hospital. For those not inclined to the great outdoors, the metropolitan area of Huntington, West Virginia, provides varied social and cultural advantages. The Huntington Art Gallery is well known for its fine collection of art displays and cultural classes. EDUCATION The area has a high school, grade school and middle school. In addition, there is a public library in town. Marshall University, in nearby Huntington, occupies a 50 acre campus and enrolls more than 12,000 students. The Marshall University School of Medicine opened its doors in 1977 and offers area physicians opportunities for continuing education. Other universities and colleges near Three Rivers Medical Center include Morehead State University, a well-respected state university. |
